After a fantastic night at the CRN Channel Awards, the Mimecast team has just about got over the worst of the after-effects and so we wanted to take a moment to have our say on what was a superb night; both for Mimecast and our partners.

For those of you who haven’t yet heard, we are delighted to say that Mimecast took home the Security Vendor of the Year Award last night; our first Channel Award and one made all the more special because it was also our first ever nomination.

To be named Security Vendor of the Year is a fantastic achievement for the whole Mimecast team and great recognition of the progress we have made in the past 12-18 months.  Given the huge brands we were up against in our category, we arrived at the awards yesterday more in hope than expectation. However, at Mimecast we have never shied away from taking on the big players. We have always known that our technology is good enough to compete with anyone but our image as the ‘new kid on the block’ has taken a little while to shift.

That is no longer the case. Mimecast’s channel community has evolved significantly since I joined the company four years ago and I think it is fair to say that we are no longer seen just as the plucky underdog but as a UK vendor that is really one to watch.

Looking around the room last night, I was also struck by how many awards our partners were taking home.  With Bytes named Enterprise Reseller of the Year, Trustmarque winning Services Provider of the Year and Softcat taking home both the Channel Personality of the Year and Reseller of the Year Awards, which I’m sure will take pride of place in the trophy cabinet alongside its Mimecast Partner of the Year title from earlier in the year. With Microsoft named Software vendor of the Year as well it really was a fantastic night for Mimecast partners.

Of course, there is no time to rest on our laurels! We’re an ambitious bunch and Mimecast has always been a fast growing company. Fortunately all the signs are that the next 12 months will be great for our business, both at home and abroad, so we’ll be looking to further develop our existing partnerships with the companies mentioned above and with the likes of Kelway, Computacenter, Cable&Wireless Worldwide and Servium, who I’m pleased to say were all there last night to share in our success. We’ll also be looking to bring on board more top class partners who can help us take advantage of the new opportunities coming our way; but we’re only looking for the very best!

In the meantime, congratulations once again to all the Mimecast team and our award winning partners. And roll on 2012!
